Book Cover AI Measurement Calculator — Softcover and Hardcover

Use this calculator to generate print-cover measurements that can be supplied to AI design tools such as ChatGPT, image generators, layout designers, Word, InDesign, or Canva.

• Inputs: internal book width, internal book height, page count, single/double-sided setup, paper stock, and binding type.
• Softcover rule: cover height is the same as the internal book height. Bleed is 3 mm on all sides.
• Hardcover rule: cover height is internal height + 4 mm, cover width adds 14 mm total board allowance, and bleed is 15 mm on all sides.
• Back cover rule: back cover text frames must be centred horizontally within the back cover trim/board area only, excluding bleed and excluding spine.
• Text safety: no readable text should sit closer than 10 mm from the trim/cover edge, in addition to bleed.
• Spine safety: spine text/logos should be centred horizontally on the spine with 2–3 mm clear space either side.
• Recommended output: 600 dpi minimum for sharp print covers; 1200 dpi preferred where practical.
